Critics Consensus

A clone of THX 1183, Coma, and Logan's Run, The Island is another loud and bombastic Michael Bay movie where explosions and chases matter more than characters, dialogue, or plot.

The Island | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Olly Richards Empire Magazine Like its slack-jawed clones, The Island is full of energy and incredibly pretty but burdened with only the minimum of smarts. Rated: 3/5 Jan 7, 2006 Full Review The Island | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Nathan Rabin AV Club As usual, Bay stages the action at a breakneck pace that's never frenetic enough to obscure his film's plot holes and logical lapses. Sep 26, 2005 Full Review The Island | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Nev Pierce BBC.com [T]here's plenty to enjoy in the more intimate, character-based moments, if you can cope with the relentlessly overblown action that surrounds them. Rated: 3/5 Aug 9, 2005 Full Review The Island | Rotten Tomatoes (4) David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...an agreeable sci-fi-friendly premise that’s employed to progressively tiresome (and flat-out interminable) effect by Bay... Rated: 1.5/4 Nov 17, 2024 Full Review The Island | Rotten Tomatoes (5) Leigh Paatsch Herald Sun (Australia) So-so sci-fi that will effortlessly chew up two and a half hours on your life if you feel like dropping your guard (and expectations). Rated: 2.5/5 Jun 2, 2020 Full Review The Island | Rotten Tomatoes (6) Kathi Maio The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction The Island was not a particularly good movie. In fact, it is a perfect case study of everything that is overblown (as in, blown-up) and emotionally empty about so many Hollywood films. Mar 6, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Carlos R Está película lleva más de una década y para mí a sido una de las mejores de bay, adoro mucho cada vez que la veo. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/17/24 Full Review Larry L I own this DVD I've seen it at least four or five times and I'm entertained buy it every single time. I will watch it again and again. This is what makes Rotten Tomatoes such a bad reviews service. critics rate all the dumb movies very high, case in point "Long Legs" was possibly the worst movie I've ever seen and all the best movies people like low. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/15/24 Full Review Darío C I don't know why this movie gets so much hate, specially from the critics. This movie is one of my favorites. An original and thought provoking concept. The story is very well paced from the protagonists. You don't ever notice it's 2 hours long. This is not the first time I watched this movie, and surely won't be the last. Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/11/24 Full Review Shelley Ann V Love these two actors, great plot, exciting, and probably the future one day! Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/08/24 Full Review Yash B "The Island" was the only Michael Bay film I hadn't seen for a while, and I finally decided to watch it. I think this is a solid blockbuster movie. The sci-fi premise has been done in similar ways before but it's interesting enough to grab me and get me invested quickly. What makes this movie shine is that it becomes a chase movie because I think Bay just knows how to create action sequences that are exciting and fun. I think the movie is also paced pretty well and enjoyable to watch. Overall, it is not a revolutionary movie by any means, but it is a movie that is a lot of fun and despite some moments that require some suspension of disbelief, I was entertained pretty much the whole way through. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/16/24 Full Review Jelena S I absolutely liked that movie. Scarlett is the most beautiful. The actors are amazing. There is actions and passion. I watched it many times. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/20/24 Full Review Read all reviews
