DDEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY2+ weeks agoAgencyOn Thursday, March 28, 2024, at 5:37 p. m., Sunnyvale DPS patrol officers were dispatched to a report of a fight at Ponderosa Park (811 Henderson Ave.) involving armed suspects. As officers arrived, several juveniles were seen fleeing the park and were stopped by officers. Two juveniles were subsequently arrested after they were found to be in possession of a firearm and a machete-style knife. While officers were still investigating the fight, Sunnyvale DPS dispatch advised that an adult male victim had arrived at a local area hospital with gunshot wounds. He is listed in stable condition. A second male juvenile shooting victim was identified with non-life-threatening injuries at a separate local area hospital. Sunnyvale DPS detectives are investigating this case. Preliminary evidence indicates the two groups may have known each other. This does not appear to be a random incident. Anyone with information about this case should contact Sunnyvale DPS at 408-730-7134 or email Detective Mark Francis at mfrancis@sunnyvale.ca.gov.39Like14

DDEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY2+ weeks agoAgencyToday, January 28, 2024, we remember and honor a fallen hero. On Sunday evening January 28, 1962, at around 9 p.m., a robbery of a liquor store on S. Murphy Avenue was reported. PSO Larson responded to this report and witnessed possible suspects fleeing the area. PSO Larson pursued the two suspects in his vehicle and on foot into an open field on El Camino Real, east of Henderson, where a gun battle ensued. PSO Larson was shot and died from his injuries. He was our first officer to be killed in the line of duty. PSO Larson was only 23 years old and a two-year veteran of our department. He was survived by his wife and two children. Following in his father’s footsteps, his son eventually became a Sunnyvale Public Safety Officer and served our community for 15 years. We will forever honor PSO Larson’s service and sacrifice.81Like9
