Final Fantasy 14 allows players to change their character's appearance throughout the game, with the Aesthetician being a useful tool in customizing the Warrior of Light's looks. This feature, combined with the possibility to use Fantasia, and to apply Glamour to gear, ensures each player character can stand out, and adds to the fun for those who like to spend hours on end figuring out how they want their character to look next.
From the start, Square Enix's critically acclaimed MMO offers players plenty of options in the character creation screen, something that can make it hard to pick between hairstyles and colors, as well as tattoos, makeup, and other features. The indecisive and those who want to always be fashionable should not fret, however: the Aesthetician is the solution to keep your character's looks fresh without changing them completely - and here you'll find out how to use this Final Fantasy 14 feature!

How to start the Aesthetician quest in Final Fantasy 14
Requirements
Before players can start the quest to unlock the Aesthetician, it is necessary to reach level 15 with any class and complete the "Call of the Sea" Main Scenario Quest. It will be necessary to go to Limsa Lominsa to pick up the quest, but at this point in the MSQ players who started in Ul'dah and Gridania will also have access to the city via airship, and the game itself will already have explained how traveling this way works.
Completing Beauty Is Only Scalp Deep in Final Fantasy 14
If all the requirements are met, the quest to unlock the Aesthetician is "Beauty Is Only Scalp Deep". It can be picked up from the Miqo'te NPC S'dhodjbi (X: 11.1, Y: 11.0), found inside the Drowning Wench in Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks. She will warn the Warrior of Light about a dangerous man supposedly lurking in the Lominsan streets and will ask the adventurer to help with the investigation. Upon finding the suspect, the man will claim the tale isn't truthful at all, introducing himself as Jandelaine and very dramatically asking for aid in recovering the tools of his work.
Jandelaine explains the player will have to go to three different NPCs: Forgemaster H'naanza of Naldiq & Vymelli's, Guildmaster Beatin of the Gridanian Carpenters' Guild, and Severian at the Alchemists' Guild in Ul'dah. The player can go to whichever city-state they choose - there is no required order to complete the quest, although it is necessary to speak to all three NPCs, one in each starting city.
Starting with H'naanza (X: 10.5, Y: 15.4) should be simpler, considering she is the NPC located in Limsa Lominsa. All the player needs to do is go to Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks, more specifically to the Blacksmiths Guild (The Aftcastle is the nearest aethernet point), and talk to her so she can criticize Jandelaine for the theatrics and repeatedly losing his tools. She will also give the adventurer a package that is necessary to complete the quest.
Going to Gridania will take the adventurer to Beatin (X: 10.3, Y: 12.3) inside the Carpenter's Guild in New Gridania, right by the Aetheryte Plaza. While he seems tired of Jandelaine's actions, he simply says he hopes the man will change his ways, then hands over another package. In Ul'dah, Severian (X: 9.2, Y: 13.6) can be found inside the Alchemists' Guild, in Ul'dah - Steps of Thal (Hustings Strip). He is the most sympathetic to Jandelaine, and eagerly offers his help by asking the player to deliver yet another package to him.
Jandelaine will be waiting at the same place you spoke to him before. After giving him the new tools, he will suddenly feel revitalized. Revealing himself as the Aesthetician, he will immediately change a Lalafell woman's appearance, impressing her with his skill. Completing the quest, the player will then have access to this feature, and will also be rewarded with Jandelaine's Token, an item that allows for one free visit from the Aesthetician.
How to change a character's appearance in Final Fantasy 14
After unlocking the Aesthetician, the player can access that service by visiting inn rooms. There, a Crystal Bell can be found, and using it will summon the Aesthetician. It's worth noting that these visits are not for free, costing the player 2,000 gil each time they change their character's appearance (there is no cost if, after summoning him, the player decides to make no changes). It might seem like a lot of Gil at first, but it soon seems cheap as the player progresses through the game.
Hair, eyebrows, lip color, scars, tattoos, face paint, some other facial features, and earrings can have their style and color altered through the Aesthetician. Race, sex, skin color, and other such features cannot be changed this way, and demand the use of Fantasia.
Players can get more hairstyles in Final Fantasy 14 beyond the selection available at first. Some can be bought for Manderville Gold Saucer points (MGP), while others are drops from Palace of the Dead and other Deep Dungeons, raids, and other duties, or can only be bought at the Mog Station. Most are available on the Market Board (look for 'Modern Aesthetics'), although they usually aren't cheap.
